New Drunk Elephant Does It Really Slaai?

Drunk Elephant is back with a new product that I couldn’t wait to try. Makeup removers/ cleansing balms are essential in my skincare routine and a must in effectively removing makeup before cleansing with a face wash. The new Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser is the first makeup melter from Drunk Elephant. It is described as “an innovative cleansing balm that melts all traces of dirt, makeup and sunscreen from the skin.” It features ingredients such as blueberry, kiwi, and strawberry fruit extracts to comfort and moisturizes the skin. It also contains baobab, Kalahari, melon seed and mongongo oil to protect and nourish the skin.

I applied Slaii when I was taking off my makeup the other night. Like most makeup remover cleansing balms I put it on dry skin and rubbed the product until it melted and the makeup broke up on my face. Usually, when using most cleansing balms once water is added the product will emulsify, and the product and makeup will melt off. With Slaai however, the product didn’t emulsify, and I had to wipe off with a towel. I double checked the directions, and it said you should be able to wash off, but it’s also recommended to wipe off with a cloth. I had to go with towel recommendation because water alone wasn’t removing the product.

So I’m not going to lie I love Drunk Elephant, and I was a little disappointed with this product. When I first put it on the skin it smelled and felt really good and did break up the makeup really fast but getting it off wasn’t the most straightforward process. Water alone doesn’t remove the product and makeup you definitely need a towel or cloth. So if you’re looking for a cleansing balm that just rinses off with water, I would do the Drunk Elephant Beste Jelly Cleanser instead or another makeup removing cleansing balm. Slaai Melting Butter Cleanser retails at Sephora for $34.
